Inside the book

What will happen to work as machines take on more of our tasks? What will remain scarce in a world of abundance? How far will we venture into space? The book connects technological advances with the human and social questions they raise.

It also explores what might happen when several of these transformations converge and begin to work together.

Adolphe Sax

The Dream of a New Sound

Before it became an instrument, the saxophone was one man’s dream.

A graphic novel about Adolphe Sax and his desire to give the world a new sound. A story that gives invention a human face, brings music to the page and turns a dream into a human adventure.

At the heart of this story are creativity, perseverance and the search for a distinctive voice. The artwork brings the inventor’s work, his aspirations and the world in which his instrument was born to life.

A different way to explore the history of music: through images, emotions and the journey of the man who imagined a new sound.

The connecting thread

How does an idea become an invention,
then a force that can change our lives?

As an engineer and nonfiction author, I am as interested in technology as I am in the human questions it raises.

My work sits at the intersection of technology and its practical uses, with a particular interest in artificial intelligence and the changes it brings to our societies.

An amateur saxophonist since childhood, I am also fascinated by invention and by the lives that illuminate an era. My books explore that curiosity in different forms. Nonfiction lets me examine possible futures, connect ideas and consider their consequences. Graphic novels bring stories to life, give invention a human face and make room for emotion.

Through Elon Musk and Adolphe Sax, I explore two eras and two approaches to invention. What connects them is the way ideas take shape, the obstacles they encounter and the worlds they open up.
